JI parents at Fox Mill ES have put together a document in Japanese that outlines the FCPS budget process and explains the crisis facing the immersion program.

Please let your native Japanese friends and family know that this helpful guide is available here.

Superintendent Garza is currently drafting her proposed budget for FY 2017.  If we want to ensure that the immersion program at Great Falls ES and other FCPS schools continues, we need to make our voices heard.  Please write an email of support for the immersion program to Dr. Garza and your School Board representative. Encourage your kids to write a letter too.

While a personal note is best, you can find a sample email and important email addresses here to help you get started.

FCPS Budget Task Force Recommends Cutting Immersion

FCPS is facing a $50-$70 million budget shortfall for the 2016-2017 school year.  To fill the gap, the FY 2017 Budget Task Force has recommended that it cut the language immersion programs to save $1.9 million (find the report here).  The JCC has formed a Committee to coordinate efforts to fight against these proposed cuts.  We will try our best to keep this page updated with information on our activities and how you can help.

On Monday, November 16 the Committee had its first meeting

Our next meeting will be sometime in January after Dr. Garza publishes her budget proposal.
